Position Overview & Specifications

The mission of Alum Rock Counseling Center (ARCC) is to heal families and inspire youth to reach their full potential. For 48 years, ARCC has provided a wide range of behavioral health counseling and school-based support, designed to promote health equity & educational equity, and ensure that high-risk youth stay safe, in school, and drug & violence free. The agency supports a predominantly Latinx (70%) population in underserved schools and neighborhoods throughout Santa Clara County with a focus on the high-need area of East and Central San Jose. ARCC staff provide services to youth and caregivers who otherwise might struggle to afford and/or access quality care. In 2020-21, the agency served 6,000+ individuals, through 13 different programs, including individual and family counseling, substance use prevention education, youth mentoring, family reunification, parent training/support, and services in 40+ high-need schools.

Alum Rock Counseling Center (ARCC) is looking for a Family Specialist to work in our Prevention & Early Intervention (PEI) Program. ARCC is working closely with local school districts to deliver the Prevention & Early Intervention (PEI) Program in East and Central San Jose. Employing evidence-based practices PEI services target high-risk youth and their families with the goal of preventing, reducing, and eliminating mental health issues that may be inhibiting academic success and family wellness. The Family Specialist supports PEI by engaging youth and their families in services aimed at addressing behavioral issues through educational workshops and sessions, one-on-one interventions and behavior support planning services in the home and in the community, connecting students and families to resources that will reduce/eliminate non-productive and violent behaviors.

DUTIES:

  • Provide education and outreach to community-based organizations to make them aware of ARCC’s PEI program.
  • Facilitate presentations to school administrators, teachers and staff.
  • Host information tables at community events.
  • Engage youth and families during school events to provide information about PEI services.
  • Provide youth and family support and case management (meeting with youth and/or families in the community and/or in the home).
  • Work with families to identify unproductive or challenging behavior(s) in their child.
  • Engage in classroom observations to identify unproductive behavioral symptoms and trends exhibited at school.
  • Inform and educate families about strategies and techniques to address identified behavioral problems.
  • Formulate, implement and monitor individual youth/family service plans.
  • Conduct follow-ups and monitor service delivery and client progress.
  • Properly track the services provided to students and families in the community.
  • Assist families with service provider navigation to ensure that necessary services are secured.
  • Lead student and family workshops and sessions.
  • Facilitate family education workshops following identified Strengthening Families Curriculum.
  • Facilitate enhanced behavior support sessions in individual and group settings (Triple P, Level 4).
  • Ensure that all workshop preparation activities are executed.
  • Ensure that all required forms and documents are properly completed and kept up to date.
  • Document all services according to established protocol and within required timeframes. Maintain confidential client records and files.
  • Maintain a minimum caseload of 15 clients.
  • Meet agency productivity requirements. Additional cases will be provided in order to meet productivity requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary for the good of the agency and as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in counseling, psychology, child development or related field required.
  • At least one year of outreach, counseling and case management experience with at-risk youth and families in a community based setting.
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to economic and cultural issues in diverse communities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, public speaking skills and demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work independently with minimal supervision, and act as a positive member of a team.
  • Able to work evenings or weekends as necessary.
  • Fingerprinting and background clearance as required by the Department of Justice.
  • Valid CA driver’s license, an automobile for agency travel, and proof of current auto insurance
  • Current TB test clearance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.66 per hour
