Position Overview & Specifications
We are looking for a cow health focused Herdsperson/Assistant Herdsperson to work as part of our dairy team in a large dairy farming and dairy processing business near Glastonbury.
The business: We milk 1000 cows, 3 x day on a 60-point rotary. Great cow facilities alongside excellent cow performance. We raise our own dairy replacements at 3 dedicated sites within 3 miles of the main dairy site. Our forage team is responsible for growing all forage for the milking and youngstock herd.
The Role: You would be one of five key members of a skilled and cow focused management team, each of whom have a specific area of expertise and responsibility. The Person: We are looking for someone who is a natural team player, who communicates successfully and who enjoys working with people and cows in a varied environment. You will have a good depth of cow knowledge and some experience of working with high performance cows. Ideally you will be AI trained, with recent experience. Experience and/or training in foot trimming and other cow management practices or a strong desire to learn would be beneficial. You may be looking to develop or fine tune your existing skills in cow management or gain experience in a scale operation. A willingness to gain and share knowledge and develop yourself and others is essential.
