Role Description
Job Title: Volunteer Befriender in Corby
Accountable to: Team Leader
Hours: Minimum of 5 per month
About this role
We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to befriend adults and families, who have experienced domestic abuse and are new to Northamptonshire. Clients will be from our refuges and your role will be to support them in conjunction with the Refuge Domestic Abuse Specialists. Planning and offering one to one support when needed, both in the refuge and out.
Key Tasks:
Tasks may vary due to the person-centred nature of this role. Typical tasks include one or more of the following:
- Supporting clients to find and access local amenities i.e., schools, nurseries, shops etc.
- Supporting clients to develop wider social links in the area.
- Supporting facilitators in delivering domestic abuse groups.
- Supporting Refuge Domestic Abuse specialist in the daily running of the refuge
- Liaising closely with the Refuge Domestic Abuse Specialists to give handovers where necessary.
- Facilitating/Cofacilitating children's groups or one to one sessions with adults to increase awareness of domestic abuse.

- Experience with supporting people
- Being sympathetic towards victims/survivors of Domestic Abuse
- Be enthusiastic about helping a local charity to support families affected by domestic abuse.
- Be trustworthy and reliable.
- Be calm and creative when engaging with residents in refuge
- Have excellent communication and team working skills.
- Have the desire to find out more about the work of NDAS.
- Have flexibility and the willingness to volunteer.
- Keep up to date with the work of NDAS to represent the charity in a professional manner.
- Be able to do basic note taking.
We would appreciate any time you are able to offer. If you can commit to regular hours (such as 2-3 hours per week) we would be delighted to discuss ongoing projects that might interest, you. As it takes an amount of time and resource to welcome new volunteers on board, we would appreciate it if you pledged to support us initially for a minimum of 3 months.

- Volunteers can claim all reasonable and previously agreed expenses (such as for travel or reimbursement for items purchased)
