Position Overview & Specifications

Specialty Doctor post (1-year-fixed term)

Applicants are invited to apply for a Specialty Doctor post in Gastroenterology at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Sherwood Forest Hospitals is an award-winning NHS Foundation Trust providing acute and community healthcare services for 420,000 people across Mansfield, Ashfield, Newark, Sherwood and parts of Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. We are working closely with partners in health and social care through the Mid Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Partnership to take collective responsibility for managing resources, delivering NHS standards, and improving the health of the population we serve.

The Gastroenterology team is based at Kings Mill Hospital in Mansfield – where there is a 4-room endoscopy unit.

Newark Hospital has a single-room endoscopy unit. Outpatient clinics are provided at both sites. The service currently sees 4000 new patients in the clinic and over 5000 follow-ups.

The endoscopy unit performs 14,000 procedures per year. The unit also houses the JAG East Midlands Endoscopy Training Centre. Endoscopic procedures currently provided include diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy, gastroscopy, and flexible sigmoidoscopy; ERCP; bowel cancer screening; EUS; oesophageal physiology; capsule endoscopy; rectal physiology and ESD are in development.

As a Speciality Doctor here at King’s Mill Hospital you will provide outpatient, inpatient and endoscopic Gastroenterology services.

  • Provision of a service to Sherwood Forest Hospitals, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department
  • The postholder is expected to contribute towards the teaching and training of medical students
  • Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences
  • Responsibilities for carrying out teaching duties as required and contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education activity
  • Participating in medical audits, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and in CPD – CPD is provided in job plans and attendance at audit and other governance meetings is mandatory

  • the postholder is responsible for data quality and complying with the policies, procedures, and accountability arrangements throughout the Trust for maintaining accuracy and probity in the recording of the Trust’s activities
  • The postholder is expected to comply with Trust policies and procedures
  • Staff is required to comply with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 in line with the Trust Policy
  • Any other duties which may be required from time to time
